Lightning Protection: North Carolina
Ranked 28th in size and in the top ten in lightning fatalities, North Carolina has had 190 lightning causalities in the last 50 years. With 11 flashes per square mile and 165 people square mile you need to use common sense when lightning is in the area and consider a lightning protection system for your property. In 2019, there were 3,641,417 cloud-to-ground strikes.
In 2010, ten people were injured by lightning. In 2011, 9 people have been injured. All nine were taking shelter under a canopy. Remember that a canopy is not a substantial building. If it looks like lightning is about to strike, get inside and shut the windows.
