Lightning Protection: New Mexico
Depending on the part of New Mexico you are in, there are averages of 10-50 days of thunderstorms a year! That is one of the biggest days of thunderstorm range in the US. With all those days of thunderstorms, New Mexico averaged about 5,125,315 cloud to ground lightning strikes in lightning strikes in 2019! That equates to about 6.64 strikes per square mile!
A major part of the New Mexico economy is directly related to the outdoors. Whether it be oil exploration, hunting adventures or tourism, you must remain diligent when being outdoors if a thunderstorm is approaching. In 2009 alone, two people were killed by injuries directly related to lightning strikes and eleven more were injured!
