Lightning Protection: Maryland
From 2008-2011, ten people have been injured from lightning and two have died from injuries sustained from a lightning strike in Maryland.
On July 25, 2011 a fast moving storm hit Maryland producing lightning and damaged two structures. In one case, the lightning struck a tree and a propane tank that caused a fire that took about 60 fire fighters to battle and did $250,000 in damages. In the same storm system, but a separate incident, lightning struck a farmhouse and caused about $25,000 in damages. The best way to avoid the loss of life or property from lightning strikes is by installing lightning rods and a lightning protection system on your buildings.

Lightning Fact!
Blue Jets are pretty interesting. As the name suggests, they look like blue beams of energy. They shoot upward from the top of a thunderstorm and extend upward forming narrow cones and then gradually dissipating. Blue Jets can travel up to 30 miles straight up. They are neither aligned with local magnetic fields and nor are they associated to CG lightning directly, thereby making them pretty mysterious events.
