Information on Lightning Protection in the state of Delaware
The second smallest state in the Union, Delaware averages 15,969 cloud to ground lightning strikes annually (8.0 per square mile). From 2008-2011, two people have been injured by lightning with no deaths reported.
On August 21,2011 three structure fires were reported between 6 and 8pm. According to the State Fire Marshal, the fires were caused by lightning. Two of the fires were in Georgetown, DE and the other one was in Milton, DE. The State Fire Marshal estimated that a total of $75,000 in damages was done. By having lightning rods installed by a certified installer or under the supervision of a certified installer, you are protecting your structure from the damages caused by lightning.
