Lightning Surge Protectors, Lightning Arrestors, Lightning Surge Capacitors
and lightning Data Line Circuit Protectors

Surge Protection:

Lightning rods alone will not protect electronic equipment. Surge protection is necessary to help protect sensitive electronic equipment from damaging lightning currents. Surge protection is recommended on the building's main electrical distribution panel, branch panels and electrical outlets where electronics will be plugged in (i.e. outlet surge protection, surge protection strips, etc.). Also, surge protection should be installed at communication/data (telephone, fax etc.), at building entrance (i.e. coaxial cables, cable TV, satellite dish, antennas, alarm systems etc.).

UL Master Label lightning protection system requires that the lightning surge protector for the main electrical distribution panel shall be UL listed and 1449 Edition 3 Listed.

Lightning Arrestors

Lightning Arrestors

Lightning arrestors (also known as surge protectors) protect electrical components and provide immediate, reliable protection against high voltage surges on buildings or power lines, that can cause electrical fires. These units will last a lifetime, except in the extreme cases of rare excess surges. A breaker box is incapable of providing protection against a "lightning fast" surge of electricity because by the time your breaker has switched off, the surge has already done its damage. Although a lightning arrestor helps to prevent high voltage spikes from infiltrating your circuits, it does not protect against the common smaller surges, which is the job of surge Capacitors.

Lightning Arrestors
Lightning Arrestor - LA302R

4-1/3", 2-1/4" Diameter
4 wire three phase

surge capacitors

Lightning Surge Capacitors

Surge Capacitors protect your building or power lines against smaller surges which occur every day when appliances turn on and off due to varying levels of current, or when power to a local grid is lost, or regained, which brings on these surges. The constant wear-and-tear of these surges can eventually permanently damage delicate electrical components. While surge capacitors are fully capable of guarding against the smaller fluctuations in current and voltage, they are unable to provide protection against large voltage spikes. Therefore, you should have both a lightning arrestor and a surge capacitor installed in your home or business.

Surge Capacitors
Surge Capacitor - CA302R

5-3/4" High, 3-1/2" Diameter
This unit is designed for heavy duty service such as motor installations.

Circuit Protectors

Lightning Data Line Circuit Protectors

The final line of defense in surge protectors is the Data Line Circuit Protector. This unit guards against electrical surges in telephone and data lines, which are often left connected to computers and televisions during thunderstorms. Hundreds of people talking on "land-line" telephones are killed every year during electrical storms by current coming straight through the telephone. A Data Line Circuit Protector affords some protection against these often overlooked and potentially lethal surges.
