The smallest state in the United States, Rhode Island sees its fair share of lightning injuries, casualties and damages. From 1959-2011, eight people were killed by lightning in Rhode Island. The state averages 2,540 cloud to ground lightning strikes annually.

On June 8th, 2012 lightning struck a tree in Providence, RI and those flames destroyed a garage. Lightning rods and lightning protection systems can also be installed on trees.
