Georgia is no stranger to lightning either. There is an average of 815,836 cloud-to-ground lightning flashes in the state annually. Georgia typically has 3 deaths as a result of lightning annually. 2010 was no exception with 3 dead and 18 injured. According to NOAA, two of the fatalities was one male and one female taking shelter under trees, and one female walking home. Two deaths were in Austell and the other in McDonough.
